Andrew Alekel is a Los Angeles based Producer, Engineer, and Mixer. His sometimes unhealthy obsession with recording began when he received The Beatles “1967-70” album for Christmas when he was 9 years old.
After picking up guitar and bass in his early teens, Andrew took his first recording classes in high school, using all analog technology. While majoring in Television & Radio Studies at the University of La Verne, he focused on a career in radio. During this fertile time, Andrew totally immersed himself in broadcasting. Starting with Production Director (working with early digital audio workstations), he moved on to Music Director, and ultimately Program Director.
After spending four years working in the Los Angeles radio market primarily in on-air production, he decided to move into recording music full time. It was in the heart of Hollywood where Andrew learned from top producers and engineers from all over the world how vintage consoles and tape machines ticked, as well as mastering the latest in digital production. He soaked up this experience like a sponge while getting to work with artists such as Rush, Weezer, Jack Johnson, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Nine Inch Nails.
Andrew became known for his ability to make recordings sound modern while having one foot planted in the classic sounds and techniques of the past. It’s this skill that led him to work with artists ranging from Foo Fighters and No Doubt, to Clutch and Fu Manchu.
For almost twenty years, Andrew has been able to help complete the vision of artists who are just starting out, ones who are established in the industry, and seasoned veterans who have sought his guidance. His instinctive ability to find the right balance between melody, lyrics, arrangement, sounds, and mix has led him to working on more than 200 records in just about every genre.
